Gopichand Musical Instrument

The Gopichand, also, known as Gopi-Yantra or Khamak, is a very popular folk instrument of Bengal. The sound of the Gopichand is most idiosyncratic. The two legs of the bamboo are squeeze mutually by the left hand while the right hand plucks the string, producing a peculiar bending of the pitch. The Gopichand is typically a metrical instrument rather than a melodic instrument.

GopiChand

The gopichand, also, known as gopiyantra or khamak, gopichand is a very popular folk instrument of Bengal. There are several variations on the construction. The length may be as small as one foot or as long as three feet; however 2-3 feet is the norm. Gopichand is approximately 24 inches x 5 inches. Smallest of the Gopichands, with the highest pitch. This one stringed instrument provides a range of sounds, in one long slur, by applying pressure to the side struts. Made in India.
